Sue Clay – Commemorative Felt Wall Hanging

THIS WALL HANGING HAS BEEN DESIGNED AND MADE TO COMMEMORATE

THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF WORLD WAR 1

AND FUNDED BY THE HOLME VALLEY PARISH COUNCIL .

THIS LARGE FELTED HANGING WAS MADE FROM CARDED SHEEP’S FLEECE

AT TEXTILE ARTIST SUE CLAY’S MYTHOLMBRIDGE ART STUDIO,

THONGSBRIDGE

BY MEMBERS OF THE HOLME VALLEY TEXTILE GROUP.

THE GROUP WANTED TO HAVE A LOCAL CONNECTION AND TO INCLUDE IMAGES OF CASTLE HILL AND HOLME MOSS MAST AS WELL AS LARGE COLOURFUL POPPIES AND SUBTLE IMAGES OF SOLDIERS EMERGING FROM THE FOLIAGE.

THE QUOTATION ‘LEST WE FORGET ’IS A REMINDER OF HOW FRAGILE PEACE CAN BE IN THIS UNCERTAIN WORLD.

IT WILL BE HOPEFULLY HANGING IN THE CIVIC HALL IN HOLMFIRTH SOON
