FELTED LARIATS, BROOCHES & RINGS workshop Friday 31 May, 10am–3:30pm

Have lots of fun exploring some easy felting techniques combined with stitching to create unique pieces of jewellery. Participants will learn to construct small sculptural components using wool, wire and fabric. These components can then be assembled on the day in various configurations to form funky pendants, neckpieces, brooches, rings etc. No felting experience necessary. Materials list provided in coming weeks.

A FETISH FOR FIBRE! presentation Friday 31 May, 7:00pm

Join Katrina Virgona on Friday evening May 31st to hear about the meanings and processes driving her art practice. She started using fibres and textiles as a vehicle for artistic expression in the late 1990s. Felting in 3D has been her preferred process for over 10 years but she also loves stitching, wiring, coiling, layering, assembling and binding. Materials most often include wool, wire, fur and hair. Interests and sources of inspiration include aspects of femininity, wearable weaponry, puzzles of aesthetic design, accessories from the Victorian era plus all sorts of objects associated with fetishistic, ritualistic and/or talismanic practices. Katrina will have two articles featured in the next issue of FELT magazine to be released in June 2019. See more artworks at: www.katrinavirgona.com & Instagram: @katrinavirgona
