Cost of Additional Materials:
Approximately $10-$15 (though you’ll probably have this in your stash already). A materials list will be sent out prior to the workshop.
Standard felting equipment which students will already have.
In this workshop, the focus is on design methods and the art of composition in felt art.
We start with a range of unique samples to ‘shift, shuffle & shake’ the way you might approach your work; the aim is to try a ‘new’ approach to designing and to expand the possibilities in terms of colour, fibre choices and more. This of it as extending your felt ‘vocabulary’!
We will focus on the process of making. Along the way, we will explore a range of felt-specific techniques for surface manipulation and design, including colour mixing and application, fibre blending, pattern inlay and shading, the thrill of ‘cut & paste’, the use of negative spaces, and the varied effects of incorporating elementary stitch and raised surfaces, to name a few.
The focus in this 2-day class will be on experimentation and thinking outside the box, guided by the tutor’s knowledge and skills and in a fun and supportive environment. We will work in 2D, however, the distinctive design approach equally applies to unique 3D and sculptural forms so if that’s your thing you’re in the right place too!
